The importance of preliminary sketching…

It helps work out the kinks and disproportions before getting into paint.  My creative process requires a good bit of reflective thinking and reconsideration.  Sometimes ideas flow quickly without glitches and sometimes my brain gets in a tangle on the way to an end point.  I had to take a step back from this head shot and think about the nose…too long, and the mandible…not just right.   All things that will be corrected in the painting.
